Mount Mercy University, located in Cedar Rapids, is as a Catholic institution in the Mercy tradition that provides a diverse group of students a practical and relevant foundation for leading successful, meaningful lives. An engaged and welcoming campus community, Mount Mercy offers students a learning environment that is deeply personal while providing academically challenging courses and vibrant programs and experiences.
Established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928, Mount Mercy has grown in size and reputation as a premier school of choice. Under the direction of President Christopher R.L. Blake, Ph.D., who joined Mount Mercy in July 2006, the institution offers graduate education programs in business, education, nursing and marriage and family therapy, while continuing to provide 35 major areas of study for baccalaureate programs. Mount Mercy offers a traditional residential learning experience as well as accelerated courses for working adults earning their undergraduate degree.
In 2010, Mount Mercy College became Mount Mercy University, a move that recognized the diverse opportunities and programs available for Mount Mercy students. Mount Mercy's mission as a regional, Catholic University focuses on five major themes: a vibrant teaching and learning environment; dynamic student experiences; sustainable institutional resources; purposeful community outreach; and dedication to our Catholic identity and Mercy mission.
Mount Mercy is home to more than 1660 traditional age students, transfer students, adult accelerated students and graduate education students. The institution’s talented and dedicated faculty blend liberal arts education with professional preparation, and encourage students to strive for excellence through service to the common good, strategic communication, reflective judgment, and purposeful living. In the Corridor, Mount Mercy is distinguished by graduates committed to service, both in their choice of career and personal volunteer service to the community. Of graduates over the past three years: 96% are in employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation; 62% remain in the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area; and 91% remain in Iowa to work, live and serve.
